2.1) REGISTRATION
To create a listing you must first register. To do this, click on 'Register' on the right hand side of the homepage. When filling out your registration form, options marked with a red asterix must be filled in. The others may be left blank if they are not relevant. Your username and password can be anything you wish. An email containing your username and password will be sent to your designated email address upon completion of registration. Once registered, you can change your details including your password on your 'my details' section located on your 'My Account' page.
Hints: The logo you use will appear on all of your listings in the cattle database. If you don't have a logo or do not wish to use a logo simply leave this section blank. You can add a logo at any stage in the future. To upload a logo, click on 'browse'. This will open a 'choose file' window on your computer. Locate the file your logo is in and click on the logo you wish to use. The recommended size is the size that will work best, but most sizes will work without a problem.
2.2) CREATING A LISTING STEP BY STEP
Once you have logged on your personal 'user page' will open. From here you can follow the instructions to update your personal information, update some of your existing listings or create new listings. To create a new listing click on 'Add New' on the left hand side of the page.
On the 'Create a Listing' page there are various fields to be filled out. Some will be relevant to your situation and some won't. Leave blank any fields that are not relevant. Any options that have a red asterix next to them must be filled in to complete the listing.
Each field is outlined below:
Number of Head: This is the number of cattle or semen or embryo that are contained in the listing.
Type: Select one of the options. If you are listing two or more different types you will have to create a listing for each.
Breed: Select from the list of breeds. If the breed you are listing is not on the list please select 'Other'. You can then specify what breed it is in the description.
Crossbreed: Only fill this in if you are listing a crossbreed animal. Select one of the breeds in the cross in 'Breed' and the other breed of the cross in 'Crossbreed'.
Price (Incl GST): Enter the price you are asking in this field. If you are an overseas user, please specify the currency you are using. Leave this field blank if it doesn't apply, for example, if you are listing for an upcoming auction sale where there is no pre-determined price.
Stud Registered: Specify whether the animals you are listing are Stud registered or not.
Animal's Name: This is usually only relevant if the animal is stud registered and has a registered name.
Animal Identifier: This field relates to an individual animal's breedplan identifier number. This is only relevant if the animal is registered in the breedplan database. Upon entering a number in this field, a direct link from your listing to the breedplan search facilities will be provided when your completed listing is displayed.
Birth Date: Enter the birth date of an individual animal or the birth period or birth year of a line of cattle.
Horn: Specify the horn status of the animal/s. Please note that 'horned' refers to animals that naturally have horns even though they may have been de-horned.
Colour: Enter the colour of the animals
Description: This is your chance to outline any detailed or specific information that you may want to display including transport details, a history of the animal/s, pedigree information etc.
Title of Listing: This is the title that will appear at the top of your listing when it is displayed. You may choose to have the name of your stud or agency as the title, eg. 'Box Brahman sale bulls'.
Town: Enter the name of the closet town or centre to where the cattle or your business is located to allow viewers to get an idea of where you're located.
State: Select which state your business or cattle are located in.
Sale Method: Select how you intend your cattle to be sold. Are they being sold through a centralized auction sale or privately / out of the paddock.
Lot number: This will usually only be relevant if you're selling an animal at an auction sale.
Auction Sale: Enter the name of the auction sale you are selling your cattle at, if you are selling through an auction sale. It is important to fill this in if you are selling through an auction sale to gain maximum exposure as this field is used to search from the homepage.
Date of Sale: Enter the start date of the auction sale if you are selling through an auction sale.
Company: Enter the name of the business or stud that is listing the cattle. This is important so that someone can search for your cattle from the homepage by searching for the name of your stud or your business name if you aren't a stud.
Agent: Enter your Agency name if you are an agent or the name of the agent selling your cattle if applicable. Alternatively you could enter 'Agents welcome' to allow agents to find you buyers.
Contact Name: The actual name of the person people should contact for further enquires.
Web: Enter the address of your own web site if you have one. This will create a direct link from your bulls4sale.com.au listings back to your own website. Be sure to enter http:// before the rest of your domain name.
Main photo: This will be the photo displayed initially when people view your listing. The other photos will be available for viewing once the viewer goes into the detailed section of the listing.
Uploading photos:
To upload a photo to be displayed with a listing please follow these steps:
Step 1. Transfer the photos from your digital camera to your computer and save them in an album or folder that you can locate easily.
Step 2. On your 'Create a Listing' page, click on browse. This will open a window.
Step 3. Through this window you should be able to locate the folder in which you saved the photos. Open this folder and 'double click' on the specific photo that you want to use.
Step 4. Repeat Steps 2 and 3 for each additional photo that you want to upload.
Remember: the 'main photo' will be the initial photo displayed with photos 2 through to 5 being available for viewing in the detailed section of the listing.
Photo Problems: Depending on the speed of your internet connection, it may take some time for the data and photos in your listing to be successfully sent. Sometimes when problems occur, the photos will not make it through the transfer process. If you experience such problems, it may be easier to attach the photos to an email and send to info@bulls4sale.com.au. Simply include your user name, the title of the listing or the name of the animal that the photos belong to in the email and we will add the photos to your listing.
2.3) MANAGING A LISTING
2.3.1) LISTING EXPIRY:
Once your listing has been created it will be active for 2 months. Once 2 months has passed, your listing will expire. This is to ensure that the database is not clogged up with listings that are no longer in use. However, you can easily renew the expired listing by logging onto your 'my listings' page and clicking on 'renew listing'. The listing will then run for another 2 months.
2.3.2) EDITING LISTINGS:
Some of the options are able to be edited throughout the life of the listing. For instance, if your listing is advertising a line of 30 herd bulls and you sell 10 of them, you can change the number of head without having to create a whole new listing. To edit an existing listing go to your 'My account' page and click on 'My Listings'. Click on the listing you want to edit and follow the prompts.
2.3.4) SOLD SIGNS:
You can place a 'sold' sign on any of your listings once your stock has been sold. This will remain there until the listing expires. This acts as further advertising for your stud or business. To place a 'sold' sign on your listing, enter your 'My account' page, click on 'My listings' and click on the listing you want to use. Simply change the 'status' option from 'for sale' to 'sold'.
